As we step into the vibrant city of İskenderun, situated on the stunning Turkish coast, I am reminded of my adventures in Cairo, where the blend of history, culture, and modernity creates an unforgettable experience. Our day in İskenderun begins early, with the warm sunlight peeking through the windows, inviting us to explore this treasure trove of architectural marvels, delectable street food, and, of course, exceptional coffee.

Morning

Our morning starts at the bustling İskenderun Pazarı (Market), where the aroma of freshly baked bread and the sound of vendors calling out their daily specials fill the air. This is the perfect place to immerse ourselves in local culture, similar to the vibrant markets I have encountered in Cairo. For breakfast, we head to Kahve Dünyası, a cozy café serving traditional Turkish breakfast, complete with menemen, sucuk, and an array of cheeses, all paired with a rich Turkish coffee. The cost for such a feast is approximately 20-30 TRY (Turkish Lira) per person, a steal for the quality and quantity.

Following breakfast, we take a leisurely walk along the İskenderun Waterfront, enjoying the serene views of the Mediterranean Sea. This scenic path, lined with palm trees and historic buildings, offers a glimpse into the city's rich history and architectural diversity, much like the Nile River Corniche in Cairo. As we stroll, we stop by the İskenderun Castle, a medieval fortress that stands as a testament to the city's strategic importance. Entrance to the castle costs about 10 TRY, a small price for the panoramic views and historical insights it offers.

Afternoon

The afternoon is dedicated to exploring İskenderun's main attractions. We visit the İskenderun Museum, which houses a collection of artifacts showcasing the city's history and cultural heritage. Admission is free, making it an accessible and enlightening experience for all. For lunch, we indulge in the local specialty, Doner Kebab, at one of the many street food stalls. A delicious doner kebab sandwich costs around 15-20 TRY, a flavorful and filling option that is hard to resist.

After lunch, we embark on a walking tour of the city's historic districts, admiring the unique blend of Ottoman and modern architecture. This self-guided tour allows us to discover hidden gems, such as quaint shops and local artisans, at our own pace. Similar to the Khan el-Khalili market in Cairo, these streets are filled with character and offer a deep dive into the local culture.

Evening

As the day winds down, we find ourselves at Mediterranean Beach, watching the sunset over the sea. This tranquil setting, with its breathtaking views, is the perfect spot to relax and unwind. For dinner, we recommend Seafood at Yorum Restaurant, where the freshest catches of the day are prepared with flair. A seafood meal for two, including local wines, can cost between 100-150 TRY, a worthwhile investment for the quality and service.

The evening concludes with a visit to İskenderun's Night Market, where the night air is filled with music, laughter, and the enticing smells of street food. Here, we can find unique souvenirs and try local desserts, such as baklava and Turkish delight, for about 10-20 TRY. This vibrant market, much like the night markets in Cairo, is a fitting end to our day in İskenderun, leaving us with unforgettable memories of this captivating city.

Throughout our journey, getting around İskenderun is relatively easy,
